Traffic Control Update

  • North 7th Street from Main Street to Pleasant Street has reopened for business access.
  • Starting this week, North 7th Street from the north side of the Pleasant Street intersection to Washington Street will be closed to traffic. During this closure, the Orr Street and Washington Street intersections are expected to remain open for traffic to cross North 7th Street.
  • The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Diamond J Construction anticipate reopening North 7th Street for business access between Pleasant Street and the south side of Palmer Street early next week, weather and other factors permitting.

Business Access Update

  • Post office parking on North 7th Street will be temporarily unavailable during this closure. Please use alternate side street parking.
  • The Ugly Mug has set up a temporary drive-through in the parking lot on the north side of the building while the regular drive-through approach is restricted. Feel free to call ahead or text your pick-up order to 406-874-8459.

May 9, 2024

Updates as of May 9, 2024:

  • Trucks are being diverted to the detour on North 5th Street for the duration of construction and must follow posted truck route and load restriction signage. Other vehicles are being directed to use the detour as North 7th Street closures require.
  • The 7th Street with Main Street intersection will be closed periodically to allow for signal light replacement and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades.
  • Sidewalk upgrades are expected to begin after Bucking Horse Sale ends May 19.

April 23, 2024

Updates as of April 12, 2024:

  • The detour on North 5th Street is active. Trucks are being diverted to the detour for the duration of construction. Other vehicles are using sections of the detour as North 7th Street closures require.
  • Throughout the project sections of the North 7th Street between the intersection with Main Street and the intersection with Williams Street will have temporary closures. Right now, the following sections of North 7th Street are closed for underground utility work:
    • Between Orr Street and Washington Street: Work will be at the alley crossing, so business and residential access will be available, but through traffic will be routed to the detour on North 5th Street.
    • South of Main Street to the alley south of Palmer Street: The Ugly Mug alley drive through remains accessible.
  • The 7th Street with Main Street intersection will be closed briefly, periodically to allow for signal light replacement and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades.
  • Sidewalk upgrades are expected to begin after the Bucking Horse Sale ends May 19.

April 12, 2024

Updates as of April 12, 2024:

  • Detour milling and paving is in progress on North 5th Street to accommodate additional traffic while North 7th Street is under construction. Once this is complete, trucks will be diverted to the detour for the duration of construction.
  • Sections of North 7th Street are expected to close for underground utility work the week of April 15th, between the south side of the Main Street with 7th Street intersection and Williams Street.
  • Once the underground utility work is completed at the 7th Street with Main Street intersection, the intersection will reopen to eastbound, westbound, and southbound traffic as work continues north of the intersection.
  • Sidewalk and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades are expected to begin after Bucking Horse Sale.

April 1, 2024

Updates for the week of April 1, 2024:

  • Diamond J Construction will begin preparing the detour on North 5th Street in early April so it can be used as an alternate truck route while North 7th Street/MT 59 is under construction. Trucks will be directed to the detour throughout construction. All other traffic will be advised to use the detour only as needed.
  • Construction on the underground water main, sewer line, and storm drain system is expected to begin in mid-April at the intersection of North 7th Street/MT 59 with Main Street. Work will be completed in four-block segments and continue northward, toward the Yellowstone River bridge.
  • Sidewalk and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades are expected to begin after Bucking Horse Sale (5/16 - 5/19).
  • Business access will be maintained throughout construction although there may be times when you will need to use an alternate entrance or side street parking. Businesses are encouraged to contact the project team with questions or to coordinate logistics related to business access by calling 888-242-7770 or emailing milescitynorthXYZdowlABCcom.
  • For safety purposes, the United States Postal Service (USPS) drop boxes on North 7th Street have been disabled for the duration of construction. There are five other USPS drop box locations in Miles City including Stockman Bank and the courthouse.
