Montana Department
of Transportation Proposes Resurfacing Project for U.S. Highway 12

Miles City The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would
like to notify the public and seek comments on a proposal to mill and
overlay about 14.4 miles of U.S. Highway 12, east of Miles City in
Custer County. The project begins east of the Main Ridge Road at
reference post 13.1 and extends east for 14.4 miles, ending near the
Smith Creek culvert crossing near reference post 27.5.

Proposed work
includes milling the existing surface, applying a new overlay, and
finishing with a seal and cover (chip seal), upgraded pavement
marking, signage and guardrail. The purpose of the project is to
extend the existing pavement life and provide a safer, smoother
riding surface.

A target construction date will be determined upon
completion of design activities and as funding becomes available. No
new right-of-way or utility relocations will be needed.
