Montana Department
of Transportation Proposes Construction Project to Upgrade Road
Crossings Along West Side Trail in Bozeman

Bozeman ó The Montana
Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to notify the public
and seek comments on a proposal to construct Americans with
Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant roadway crossing improvements in
west Bozeman. The project begins at the intersection of the West Side
Trail and West Babcock Street and runs north to the intersection of
the West Side Trail and Oak Street. The three crossings are West
Babcock Street at the intersection with Fowler Avenue, Durston Road
between Hunterís Way and Greenway Avenue, and Oak Street at the
intersection with Hunterís Way.

Proposed work includes crosswalk
markings, ADA curb ramps, widened sidewalk along Oak Street between
the West Side Trail intersection and Fowler Avenue crossing, and
refuge islands and rectangular rapid flashing beacons for the Durston
Road and Oak Street crossings. The purpose of the project is to
provide a safe continuous route for West Side Trail users as well as
ADA-compliant crossings on West Babcock Street, Durston Road, and Oak

The project is tentatively scheduled for construction in the
spring of 2019, depending on completion of all project development
activities and availability of funding.

The project will be funded
jointly from Federal Highway Administration Transportation funds and
a City of Bozeman local match. No new right-of-way will be needed.
