of Transportation Proposes Sidewalk Improvements in Cascade
— The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to notify
the public and seek comments on a proposal to construct new sidewalk
and upgrade existing sidewalk in Cascade. The project is along the
north side of 4th Avenue North from 2nd Street to 4th Street, near
the intersection of 1st Street (Montana Highway 68) and 4th Avenue
North, and along the west side of 3rd Street from 2nd Avenue South to
Proposed work includes approximately 700 feet of
new sidewalk and curb and gutter, upgraded curb ramps to Americans
with Disabilities Act standards, spot replacement of deteriorated
sidewalk, crosswalks, and signing. The purpose of the project is to
construct sidewalks to safely route pedestrians to and from the
Cascade School Complex, Quiet Day Manor, the Senior Center, and the
Downtown Business District.
Sidewalk improvements are also being
proposed on a separate but concurrent MDT project, Cascade – East, on
Central Avenue from 1st Street to the bridge over the Missouri River.
The project is tentatively scheduled for construction in 2018,
depending on completion of all project development activities and
availability of funding.
No new right-of-way or utility relocations
The project is funded with Federal Highway
Administration Transportation Alternatives funds and a combination of
State of Montana and Town of Cascade local matching funds.
