Montana Department
of Transportation Proposes Resurfacing Project for U.S. Highway 2

KALISPELL The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would like
to notify the public and seek comments on a proposal to resurface the
roadway and upgrade Americans with Disabilities (ADA) sidewalk ramps
for about 2.1 miles of U.S. Highway 2 in Kalispell. The project
begins at the intersection of Cottonwood Drive and U.S. Highway 2 at
reference post 123.1 and extends north for 2.1 miles, ending about
500 feet north of the railroad crossing of U.S. Highway 2 between
Reserve Drive and Rose Crossing at reference post 125.2.

work includes milling the existing roadway surface, applying a new
asphalt overlay, and finishing with a seal and cover (chip seal). The
ADA sidewalk ramps at the signalized intersections will be upgraded
to current standards, new pavement markings will be installed and the
signage will be replaced. The purpose of the project is to enhance
the safety of the traveling public and take a cost-effective action
to prolong and preserve the existing pavement.

The project is
tentatively scheduled for construction in 2018, depending on
completion of all project development activities and availability of
funding. New right-of-way may be required and utility relocations may
be needed in specific areas to accommodate the ADA ramp upgrades.
