of Transportation Proposes Project to Replace Five Bridges on Montana
BOZEMAN — The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT)
would like to notify the public and seek comments on a proposal to
remove five bridges on Montana Highway 86 northeast of Bozeman in
Gallatin County. The project begins near Kelly Canyon Road at
reference post 6.6 and extends northeast for 2.8 miles, ending near
Jackson Creek Road at reference post 9.4.
Proposed work includes the
removal of five structures at the following reference posts: 6.7,
7.8, 8.2, 8.9, and 9.4. These structures will be replaced with either
culvert or stock pass. The new roadway will match the existing
surface width. New signage will be installed and new guardrail will
be installed at two locations.
The purpose of the project is to
reduce the number of crashes by improving signing at curves, removing
hazards within the roadway and to reduce crash severity by providing
guardrail to help prevent errant vehicles from leaving the roadway.
Construction is tentatively planned for 2017 depending on completion
of design and availability of funds. New right-of-way and relocation
of utilities will be required. MDT staff will contact all potentially
affected landowners prior to doing survey work on their land. Staff
will again contact landowners prior to construction regarding
property acquisition and temporary construction permits.
