Transportation Schedules Public Meeting to Discuss Montana Highway 3
Reconstruction Project South of Lavina
LAVINA ó The Montana
Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to invite the public to
an informational meeting for the Montana Highway 3 (MT-3)
reconstruction project south of Lavina in Golden Valley County.
This meeting will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, at the
Lavina Senior Center (117 Main Street). The meeting will begin with a
presentation of the proposed project and be followed by a Q&A
session. Project team members will be available during the meeting to
discuss the project.
The proposed project will reconstruct about 6.2
miles of MT- 3 beginning south of Lavina. The project begins south of
the roadway locally known as Buffalo Highway Road at reference post
40.5 and extends north for 6.2 miles, ending at the T-intersection of
MT-3 and U.S. Highway 12 at reference post 46.7.
includes grading, new gravel and asphalt surfacing, upgraded drainage
features, updated fencing and pavement markings, replacing bridges
over Big Coulee Creek and the Musselshell River, and finishing with a
seal and cover (chip seal). Through the town of Lavina the roadway
will be treated only with a seal and cover (chip seal) and new
pavement markings. The purpose of this project is to provide a
roadway that emphasizes quality, safety, cost effectiveness, economic
vitality and sensitivity to the environment with reconstruction that
meets current design standards.
The project is tentatively scheduled
for construction in 2021 depending on completion of all project
development activities and availability of funding. New right-of-way
and utility relocations will be required.
