Project Overview
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) has partnered with Riverside Contracting, Inc., to complete Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades in Billings. This project is taking place along King Avenue West, from 24th Street West to the Interstate 90 (I-90) City Center westbound on-ramp.
Construction is expected to continue through fall of 2025. Improvements include upgrading 19 ADA corner ramps, reconstructing one approach at the Lithia Dealership, upgrading the electrical pedestrian crossing signals, and updating pavement markings to enhance safety and accessibility for all users.
Construction Update
Construction is progressing and is expected to continue through the fall, depending on weather and other unforeseen factors.
Completed work:
- Concrete work is substantially complete, including reconstructing the approach and corner ramps.
Upcoming work:
- Electrical work to upgrade the pedestrian crossing signals is expected to begin within the next couple of weeks.
- Updates to the pavement markings are also expected to begin within the next couple of weeks.

Billings District ADA Upgrades
The Billings ADA phase is one section of the Billings District ADA Upgrades project, which also includes improvements in the Lewistown and Bridger communities. As a part of MDT’s statewide effort to improve pedestrian facilities across Montana, this project will bring sidewalks in each of these communities into compliance with current ADA standards, allowing greater accessibility for all.
