Construction Update

MDT and Riverside Contracting, Inc., will begin construction on the Billings ADA Upgrades project the week of September 8. Work is expected to continue through the fall, depending on weather and other unforeseen factors.

Project Overview

Updated September 9, 2025
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is partnering with Riverside Contracting, Inc., to complete Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades in Billings. This project will take place along King Avenue West, from 24th Street West to the Interstate 90 (I-90) City Center westbound on-ramp.

Construction is expected to continue through fall of 2025. Improvements will include upgrading 19 ADA corner ramps, reconstructing one approach at the Lithia Dealership, upgrading the electrical pedestrian poles, and updating pavement markings to enhance safety and accessibility for all users.

Billings District ADA Upgrades

The Billings ADA phase is one section of the Billings District ADA Upgrades project, which also includes improvements in the Lewistown and Bridger communities. As a part of MDT’s statewide effort to improve pedestrian facilities across Montana, this project will bring sidewalks in each of these communities into compliance with current ADA standards, allowing greater accessibility for all.
