The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Hollow Contracting Inc. have completed work on the Butte Urban Pavement Preservation project. This project saw 11 streets in Butte rehabilitated so that they could continue to serve the traveling public for many years to come.

The roads that were improved as part of this project included Excelsior Avenue, Park Street, Grand Avenue, Amherst Avenue, Elizabeth Warren Avenue, Four Mile Road, Utah Avenue, Electric Street, Western Boulevard, Shields Avenue and Farrell Street.

Improvements included removing and replacing the top layer of pavement, crack sealing the roadways, replacing guardrail, applying seal and cover (chip seal), and final pavement markings. Each road was evaluated and received select improvements.

Work on this project began earlier this summer and took approximately two months to complete.

September 19, 2024

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Hollow Contracting Inc. are beginning to apply final pavement markings to roads that are part of the Butte Urban Pavement Preservation project. These roads include Excelsior Avenue, Grand Avenue, Park Street, Amherst Avenue, Elizabeth Warren Avenue, Four Mile Road, Electric Street, Wester Boulevard, Shields Avenue, Farrell Street, and Utah Avenue.

Work is anticipated to begin the week of September 23, weather and other factors permitting.

Application of final pavement markings is anticipated to only take a few days to complete, weather and other factors permitting. Following completion of this work, this project will be complete.

August 1, 2024

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Hollow Contracting Inc. anticipate beginning guardrail work on Shields Avenue and Farrell Street the week of August 5. This work is expected to take a few days to complete, weather and other factors permitting.

Roadway sweeping and temporary striping are ongoing and are anticipated to be completed in the next week.

Crews plan to return to the project areas to apply final pavement markings in early September. Upon completion of the final paint markings, this project will be complete.

July 25, 2024

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Hollow Contracting Inc. are conducting seal and cover (chip seal) operations. Currently, crews have completed chip sealing activities from Four Mile Road through Western Boulevard, on Amherst Avenue, and on Elizabeth Warren Avenue.

Beginning Monday, July 29, crews anticipate chip sealing Grand Avenue, Park Avenue, and Excelsior Avenue. All vehicles parked on the street will need to be moved prior to chip sealing, to avoid towing. This work is anticipated to take a few days to complete, weather and other factors permitting. Crews will then sweep the roadways and apply temporary striping.

Approximately 30-40 days after completion of chip sealing operations, crews will return to the project areas to apply the final epoxy paint markings.

Guardrail work on Shields Avenue and Farrell Street is anticipated to take place during the next few weeks.

Upon completion of the guardrail and final paint markings, this project will be complete.

Currently, crews have completed chip sealing activities from Four Mile Road through Western Boulevard, on Amherst Avenue, and on Elizabeth Warren Avenue. Work on Shields Avenue and Farrell Street are anticipated to be completed soon.

The week of July 22, crews anticipate chip sealing Excelsior Avenue, Park Avenue, and Grand Avenue. This work is anticipated to take a few days to complete, weather and other factors permitting.

Guardrail work on Shields Avenue and Farrell Street is anticipated to take place during the next few weeks.

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Hollow Contracting Inc. have completed crack sealing on Amherst Avenue, Grand Avenue, and Elizabeth Warren Avenue. Crews anticipate completing paving on Four Mile Road this week, weather and other factors permitting.

The only work anticipated for the week of July 1 is cutting and concrete work for manhole and water main holes on the newly paved Four Mile Road. No work will take place between July 4 and July 7.

Crews plan to return to work on July 8 and begin chip sealing the project areas.

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Hollow Contracting Inc. anticipate completing crack sealing work on Grand Avenue this week. After this work on Grand Avenue, crews plan to begin crack sealing on Amherst Avenue. Following Amherst Avenue, crack sealing on Elizabeth Warren Avenue is anticipated to begin the week of June 24.

Milling and paving on Shields Avenue and Farrell Street is nearly complete. Crews anticipate beginning milling and paving on Four Mile Road the week of June 24.
