Project Overview

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Frontier West are rehabilitating two bridges that carry Interstate 90 (I 90) over the Clark Fork River east of Alberton. The bridges include the westbound bridge located five miles east of Alberton and the bridge located six miles east of Alberton that carries both east and westbound traffic. These bridges were originally built in the early 1960s and need repairs. This project will extend the service life of these bridges.

Improvements include:

  • Replacing the concrete bridge deck on the eastbound lanes of the bridge six miles east of Alberton.
  • Painting portions of the steel superstructures to slow corrosion.
  • Replacing bridge joints and damaged bearings.
  • Repairing bridge girders.
  • Upgrading bridge drainage and guardrails.
  • Resurfacing the pavement approaches on each end of the bridges.
  • Replacing the shoulder rumble strips and pavement striping.
