The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and its partner CK May Excavating, Inc. are constructing the Jackrabbit-Amsterdam Road Intersection project this summer. The project will improve signal operations and traffic congestion at the Jackrabbit Lane with Amsterdam Road and Alaska Frontage Road intersection in Belgrade. The purpose of this project is to improve traffic operations, enhance safety, and provide accessibility improvements and connectivity.
Project improvements will:
- Upgrade the existing signals by adding flashing yellow arrows
- Improve bike/pedestrian features according to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) design standards
- Add retroreflective backplates to signals at Amsterdam Road/Jackrabbit Lane
- Provide protected-permitted left turn movements for all legs of the intersection to improve traffic flow
- Widen the east leg of the intersection (MDT in partnership with the West Post Development)
- Improve ADA elements of the Interstate 90 (I-90) Eastbound Ramp
Construction is anticipated to begin the first week of June and last for approximately two months, weather and other unforeseen factors permitting. Access through the project area will be maintained but traffic control will be in place. During construction, motorists can expect reduced speeds, flaggers, and rough roadway surfaces. This work may cause delays of up to 15 minutes.
