The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), in partnership with Riverside Contracting Inc. and Knife River Corporation, have completed construction on US Highway 93 (US 93) between Missoula and Lolo.
Roadwork took place July through November, primarily at night between 6:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. to maintain daytime traffic flow. Periodic daytime work also occurred when materials and certain equipment required warmer temperatures.
Construction activities included milling and paving all four lanes of US 93 between Missoula and Lolo, left-turn lane adjustments near Lolo, guardrail updates, sealing the shared-use path, new pavement markings, the addition of shoulder rumble strips, and a high-friction surface treatment.

Project Overview
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), in partnership with Riverside Contracting Inc. and Knife River Corporation, is scheduled to begin resurfacing US Highway 93 (US 93) between Missoula and Lolo this July.
Roadwork will take place through October, weather and unforeseen factors permitting. Construction will take place at night between 6:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. to maintain daytime traffic flow. On US 93, one lane of traffic will be open at all times and speeds will be reduced in the work zone. Periodic road closures will take place on connecting roadways adjacent to US 93. Area residents will be notified, and motorists will be detoured.
Planned work includes left-turn lane adjustments near Lolo, guardrail updates, sealing the shared-use path, new pavement markings, the addition of shoulder rumble strips, and a high-friction surface treatment.
This project supports MDT's priority to improve the US 93 corridor. It will extend the lifespan of the pavement while enhancing safety features for all travelers between Missoula and Lolo. This project is focused on completing previously identified improvements that will enhance roadway safety while larger scale corridor improvements are considered. A separate study is taking place to identify additional solutions between Missoula and Florence. For more information about the US 93 Corridor Study, visit https://www.mdt.mt.gov/pubinvolve/us93missoulaflorence/.
We’ve all heard the saying that Montana has two seasons: winter and road construction. Roadway resurfacing work must be done in the warmest months because the asphalt creates a stronger bond, ensuring durability and an extended lifespan.
