Project Overview
The Main Street Billings Improvement Project began construction in the spring of 2021.
The project includes rehabilitation of approximately 3 miles of Main Street (US Hwy 312) in Billings from just east of the 1st Avenue S/Exposition Drive intersection (the edge of the Metra Park south boundary) to the intersection of Main with Bench Blvd/US 287 in the heights (the Roundup turn off).
The project includes a mill and overlay of the asphalt roadway, upgrading existing guardrail, replacement of signing and pavement markings, replacement of existing raised medians, upgrading of existing storm drain grates, construction of ADA compliant sidewalk corners, installation of accessible pedestrian signal push buttons, count down pedestrian signal heads, and reflective tape on traffic signal heads.
The Main Street Billings Improvement Project maintains and improves the condition of the roadway and extends the service life/quality of Main Street, the major thoroughfare through the heights in Billings and a primary connector to the rural communities east of Billings (Huntley and Shepherd). It also improves ADA and overall pedestrian access, and upgrades signal systems and lighting, increasing overall safety in the Billings heights corridor.
Construction was predominantly completed the end of 2021, however, due to late season weather conditions, and the addition of two needed median replacement, the project extended into 2022 and is anticipated to be completed late summer/early fall of 2022.
