Project Overview
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is improving the Tepee Creek crossing under US Highway 191 (US 191), 11 miles north of West Yellowstone. The existing culverts are nearing the end of their service life and need to be replaced. This project presents an opportunity to preserve the US 191 corridor and is part of MDT’s ongoing commitment to maintaining safe and dependable infrastructure across Montana.
The design team will be evaluating several alternatives to determine the appropriate replacement structure. The preferred alternative design is anticipated to be finalized during the fall of 2027, and tentative construction is planned for the fall of 2028. This project will utilize National Highway Bridge Program (NHPB) funding. MDT’s Bridge Program is allocated NHPB funds by Montana’s Transportation Commission based on system performance.
