Project Overview
Montana Highway 200 (MT 200) is a vital east-west route running through the center of the state, connecting small towns in the eastern plains to cities in the west, including Great Falls and Missoula. As regional traffic continues to increase, the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is prioritizing enhancing the highway's drivability and safety features.
In fall 2025, MDT and its contractor, Prince, Inc., completed construction on the West of Jordan project, improving approximately 9 miles of MT 200, starting 12 miles east of Sand Springs (mile marker 192.2) and ending 12 miles west of Jordan (mile marker 201).
Project improvements include:
- Widening the roadway to include 12-foot travel lanes and 5-foot shoulders.
- Extending four existing culverts to fit flattened roadway side slopes.
- Resurfacing the roadway.
- Installing rumble strips on the centerline and shoulders.
- Installing new signage and striping.
- Improving the Big Dry Creek Bridge, including repairing the bridge deck and updating the guardrail.
Crews will return in 2026 to seal and cover (chip seal), install permanent road markings and rumble strips, and perform other finishing work.

Adjacent MT 200 Project: Flowing Wells East & West and West of Brockway-West
In 2026, two projects east of Jordan will impact MT 200 travelers. These include:
- Flowing Wells East & West: Construction began in 2025 and will continue through 2026. The project will reconstruct just less than 7 miles of MT 200, beginning about 2 miles west of the Flowing Wells Rest Area and extending east past the intersection of MT 200 with Montana Highway 24 (MT 24).
- West of Brockway-West: Work is scheduled to begin in 2026 and will reconstruct almost 7 miles of MT 200, beginning approximately 14 miles west of Brockway (mile marker 253.5) and extending east to approximately 7 miles west of Brockway (mile marker 260).
These projects are the third and fourth phases of the five-phase Highway 200 Jordan to Brockway project that will reconstruct 37 miles of MT 200 east of Jordan. For more information, visit the project webpage.
