What the Law Requires

Slow Down and Proceed with Caution

The law requires motorists approaching stopped emergency services vehicles with emergency lights activated to slow down and proceed with caution.

Safely Switch Lanes

Motorists are also expected to move to a lane away from the emergency service vehicle and do so safely with due regard for other traffic.

If motorists cannot safely change lanes, they must slow down and proceed with caution.
