Protect the people who protect you.
In 2001, a law was enacted to protect Montana Emergency Services Personnel (EMS) when they are stopped on Montana roadways with emergency lights activated.
The law requires motorists approaching stopped emergency services vehicles with emergency lights activated to slow down and proceed with caution.
Motorists are also expected to move to a lane away from the emergency service vehicle and do so safely with due regard for other traffic.
If motorists cannot safely change lanes, they must slow down and proceed with caution.
If you are cited for this violation, it could result in a fine.
Join us in becoming a partner for safety by helping protect Emergency Services Personnel, while they protect others.
