The Central Montana Transportation Study was initiated in May 2024 and is anticipated to extend through 2026.
- Access management is a high priority given development activities near the Malmstrom Airforce Base. MDT is addressing this as an initial task in the study. As of June 2025, a draft plan is currently available for public review.
- For the remainder of the subareas and the broader nine-county study area, the study has focused on documenting baseline environmental and transportation conditions. This effort will continue through the summer of 2025.
- Building on baseline information, future tasks will include analysis of impacts and proposed improvement recommendations once anticipated military and development details are known. These efforts are expected to extend through 2026. Future task sequencing and duration is subject to change depending on information availability.
- Public outreach will be ongoing throughout the study. The first round of public outreach is scheduled in June 2025, and additional public events will occur as the study progresses.
