Project Overview

The existing bridge that crosses over the Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone River on Chance Road, approximately 9 miles south of Belfry, is currently closed to traffic due to its poor condition. This project will replace the existing structure with a new bridge and reopen the roadway to public travel. The proposed bridge will be built in the existing bridge location. The new bridge will be wider, providing two 12-foot travel lanes and 2-foot shoulders.

The existing single-lane bridge spans 203-feet and was constructed at this site in 1946. The truss itself is older and was salvaged from another site. MDT and Carbon County will consider offering the existing steel truss structure for adoption.

Schedule

The project is currently in the initial design stage with construction of a new bridge tentatively planned to begin in the spring of 2023.
