Project Overview
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), and its partners, Dick Anderson Construction, WGM Group, and CWG Architecture, have restored the Hardin Rest Area on Interstate 90 (I-90) at mile marker 476 between Hardin and Billings.
The rest area is now open to the public.

Both the I-90 eastbound and westbound rest area sites have been redesigned to meet modern design specifications, incorporating American with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades and increasing the capacity to accommodate the growing number of regional interstate travelers.
At the westbound site, the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) Watercraft Inspection Site has been updated, and an MDT Motor Carrier Services (MCS) Weigh Station has been added.
Reconstruction began in March 2024 and was completed in May 2025.
