US 287 North of Augusta

Project Update

The US 287: North of Augusta project design is progressing on both segments. The southern segment is currently in preliminary design. Additional geotechnical investigations related to groundwater challenges led to raising the height of the roadway in sections of the northern segment. The northern segment is currently at 60% design completion. Construction will be scheduled when a funding source is identified.

Project Overview

The US 287: North of Augusta project is located north of Augusta on US Highway 287 (US 287) and extends for about 16 miles toward Choteau. The project will reconstruct the roadway, realign segments, and update older portions of the roadway. In addition to the reconstruction, the project will include a new bridge over the Sun River, minor approach construction, and irrigation work to accommodate the highway improvements. Safety components planned for the roadway include wider shoulders, flattened slopes, and improved alignment. The improvements will reduce hazards, improve the condition of the roadway, and enhance safety features.

The project is comprised of two segments; the southern segment begins just north of Augusta and ends at the Sun River Slope Canal where the northern segment begins and extends to just south of Choteau. Each segment has its own design team and timeline based on the segment’s needs and challenges. A construction start date is currently unknown for the project. Updates will be posted to this site as the project progresses. Please call the project hotline at 833-517-0203 or email 287augustaXYZdowlABCcom with any questions or comments.
