The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Knife River expect to begin work on the I-90 Bear Canyon to Jackson Creek project the week of August 4, weather and other unforeseen factors permitting. Crews will be paving Interstate 90 (I-90) in the eastbound lanes near Bear Canyon, doing electrical work at the Jackson Creek Road Interchange (Exit 319), and doing bridge work at the Fort Ellis Road overpass.

Construction is anticipated to pause this fall and be completed in the 2026 construction season.

During construction:

  • Flaggers may direct traffic at times.
  • I-90 traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
  • Speed limits will be reduced.
  • There will be 12-foot width restrictions between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. 16-foot width restrictions will be in place at all other times.
