Project Overview

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is evaluating interchange and interstate improvements for the Lockwood Interchange and Interstate 90 (I 90) in Billings, including the design of a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI). The project will include widening I 90 to three lanes in each direction between the Lockwood and Johnson Lane interchanges and improvements to the Coburn Road intersection. The design phase of the project is planned for completion in 2026. The tentative construction year is 2029, depending on availability of funding and other unforeseen factors.

MDT will work closely with community stakeholders, local business owners, and the traveling public throughout the design and construction phases.
