Project Overview

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), in partnership with engineering firm Sanbell, is in the design phase of a safety improvement project that will enhance safety features and accessibility at the intersection of Kagy Boulevard and Sourdough Road in Bozeman.

The purpose of this project is to address intersection-related crashes and meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.

Planned improvements include:

  • Install a new traffic signal at the intersection of Kagy Boulevard and Sourdough Road
  • Install new LED streetlights at the intersection
  • Replace the existing curb and gutter
  • Improve existing sidewalks and ramps

Timeline

The project is currently in the design phase. Construction is tentatively scheduled for 2028. This timeline is dependent on completion of design, project scheduling, funding availability, and unforeseen factors.

Project Funding

The project is funded through the Carbon Reduction Program, the Highway Safety Improvement Program, and local funds.

Carbon Reduction Program - Provides federal funding to support transportation projects that reduce emissions and improve transportation system efficiency.

Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) - Provides federal funding for projects that reduce serious injuries and fatalities at locations with higher-severity crashes.
