Project Overview

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is planning to replace aging timber bridges on Montana Highway 83 (MT 83) near Swan Lake at Hall, Groom, and Six Mile Creek (mile markers 71, 71.5, 77 respectively) with new concrete box culverts. The timber bridges are nearing the end of their service life. The project will also include reconstruction of the roadway approaches. This work is part of MDT’s ongoing commitment to maintaining safe and dependable infrastructure across Montana.

Timeline

MDT anticipates letting the project on August 7, 2025 and beginning construction in April 2026. The estimated completion date is August 2026 weather and other unforeseen factors permitting.
