Project Overview
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is planning to replace aging timber bridges on Montana Highway 83 (MT 83) near Swan Lake at Hall, Groom, and Six Mile Creek (mile markers 71, 71.5, 77 respectively) with new concrete box culverts. The timber bridges are nearing the end of their service life. The project will also include reconstruction of the roadway approaches. This work is part of MDT’s ongoing commitment to maintaining safe and dependable infrastructure across Montana.
Project Updates
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Riverside Contracting, Inc. are preparing for the upcoming bridge replacement projects on MT 83. The team plans to complete clearing and grubbing in November 2025, which is expected to take one to two weeks, weather and other factors permitting. Construction is scheduled to begin in April 2026, with bridge replacements starting in June, depending on water levels and other factors. The project is anticipated to be complete in August 2026.
