When planning your holiday travel and shopping, please allow for extra time and follow all traffic control and posted signage.

  • The Pierce Parkway and Gabel Road legs of the intersection with Zoo Drive will be closed from November 17 to November 21, while crews update and reconfigure the traffic signals. Crews plan to work on Saturdays before and after the closure to complete work as quickly as possible.
  • During the closure, access to area businesses will still be available but you may need to use an alternate route (see map below).
  • Most construction is expected to be completed by the end of next week, weather and other factors permitting. Electrical work and other minor activities will continue into early December.
  • Crews will return in 2026 to install a structure across Zoo Drive that will display new directional signage.

Most construction activities (excluding electrical work) will be completed in the next couple of weeks. Some minor work will continue in 2026 including installing a structure across Zoo Drive that displays new directional signs.

Travel Advisories:

  • Crews plan to start striping the roadway the week of November 10. This may require a brief closure of the Canyon Creek intersection near Costco to complete work as quickly and efficiently as possible.
  • Starting Monday, November 17, the Pierce Parkway and Gabel Road legs of the intersection with Zoo Drive will be closed for approximately five days while crews update and reconfigure the traffic signals. Crews plan to work on Saturdays before and after the closure to complete work as quickly as possible.

October 31, 2025

  • Crews plan to start updating the traffic signals along Zoo Drive in the next couple of weeks. This will require a brief, approximately five-day closure of the Pierce Parkway and Gabel Road legs of the intersection with Zoo Drive. The closure is expected to start the week of November 10, depending on weather and the availability of materials.
  • Crews plan to start striping the roadway with permanent, reflective paint the week of November 10. This may require a brief closure of the Canyon Creek intersection near Costco to complete work as quickly and efficiently as possible.
  • Starting November 13, crews plan to close the eastbound Interstate 90 (I-90) ramps at night for electrical work. The closure is expected to last three nights between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Starting the week of November 17, crews plan to close the westbound I-90 ramps at night for electrical work. The closure is expected to last three nights between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

October 24, 2025

Active and Upcoming Work:

  • Construction of the new sidewalk along the north side of Zoo Drive is in progress and is expected to be completed in the next couple of weeks.
  • Paving along Zoo Drive is mostly complete with the exception of minor paving work needed to tie other project improvements into the roadway.
  • Crews plan to start installing updated roadway signs to reflect the new traffic configuration next week.
  • In the coming weeks, crews plan to start updating traffic signals. This will require a brief, two-night closure of the westbound Interstate 90 (I-90) ramps and about a one-week closure of the Gabel Road and Pierce Parkway legs of the intersection with Zoo Drive. Expect delays as Zoo Drive will operate as single-lane traffic in each direction while this work is completed.

  • The Zoo Drive, Pierce Parkway, and Gabel Road intersection has reopened to all directions of traffic.
  • Construction of the new sidewalk along the north side of Zoo Drive is in progress and is expected to be completed in the next couple of weeks.
  • Crews plan to start updating the traffic signals along Zoo Drive in late October or early November. This may require single-lane traffic in each direction on Zoo Drive and brief closures of the westbound I-90 ramps and the Gabel Road and Pierce Parkway legs of the intersection with Zoo Drive. More details about these closures will be provided in future updates.

  • A new sidewalk is being constructed along the north side of Zoo Drive, adjacent to the retaining wall. This sidewalk will connect with the existing sidewalk on the northwest end of the Zoo Drive I-90 bridge.
  • Crews are installing concrete foundations for the new sign bridge that will span across Zoo Drive and display updated directional signage.

  • Paving along Zoo Drive is expected to start at the end of next week, weather permitting. Expect delays while this work is completed.
  • Electrical work is ongoing and will continue through the fall.
  • A two-week closure of the Zoo Drive intersection with Gabel Road and Pierce Parkway is anticipated in mid to late September. This will allow crews to upgrade the traffic signals, add travel lanes, and widen a section of Gabel Road. Zoo Drive will remain open to through traffic but access to Gabel Road and Pierce Parkway from Zoo Drive will not be permitted. More details about this closure will be posted on the project website and in email updates as the closure approaches.

  • The northbound right-turn lane from Zoo Drive onto Gabel Road is temporarily closed to prepare for the construction of a new retaining wall outside the roadway along the north side of Zoo Drive. In the meantime, right-turning traffic should use the through lane to turn right onto Gabel Road.
  • Road widening is in progress on Zoo Drive between Gabel Road and Shiloh Road. Expect minor delays, narrow travel lanes, and reduced speeds while this work is completed.

  • Starting next week, crews plan to start prep work for the new retaining wall that will be constructed outside the roadway, along the north side of Zoo Drive. This work will require a shoulder and lane closure on the north side of Zoo Drive, leading up to the Gabel Road intersection.

This work will take approximately one week to complete and will require temporary closures of the eastbound ramps from 7 PM to 6 AM.

  • Roadway widening of the I-90 eastbound on and off ramps.
  • Median modifications along Zoo Drive.

Travel Advisories:
