The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), in partnership with the City of Kalispell and contractor Schellinger Construction, continues to make progress on the Woodland and 2nd Street / Conrad Intersection Improvements project.
Storm drain installation is mostly complete, with only a few smaller pipes remaining. Crews have begun placing gravel to build the road base. Concrete curb installation is also underway.
Crews will be on-site Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., with work potentially continuing until 10 p.m., as crews work to complete the roundabout as quickly as possible.
All work is dependent on the weather and other unforeseen factors.
The intersection will remain closed to traffic until construction is complete, including outside regular work hours.

Storm drain installation is ongoing. The manholes have been installed, and crews are pouring concrete collars around them. Crews are also constructing sidewalks and installing curb and gutter.
After storm drain work is complete, crews will begin constructing the single-lane roundabout.
Work will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The intersection will remain closed to traffic until construction is complete, including outside regular work hours.

Crews are grading the project site and constructing sidewalks, curb, and gutter. Storm drain installation is also underway. Once the storm drain is complete, crews will begin construction of the single-lane roundabout.
Labor Day Holiday: Work will pause by 3 p.m. today, Friday, September 4, and resume on Tuesday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day.
Following the holiday, crews will be on-site Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The intersection will remain closed to traffic outside those work hours until construction is complete.

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), in partnership with the City of Kalispell and contractor Schellinger Construction, has begun construction of a single-lane roundabout at the intersection of Woodland Avenue, 2nd Street East, and Conrad Drive.
Currently, crews are removing concrete and asphalt and grading the area.
Over the next few weeks, crews will haul away debris and install a storm drain.

Reminder: The intersection of Woodland Avenue with 2nd Street East and Conrad Drive will remain closed throughout construction.
Crews aim to complete the bulk of the work this construction season and reopen the intersection to traffic by the end of the year.
Access to nearby properties will be maintained, and detour and alternate route signage will be in place to guide drivers around the closure.
Detour routes include:
- Traffic traveling south and east of the closure will be directed to use 10th Street East, Willow Glen Drive, and Woodland Park Drive.
- Traffic traveling west and north of the closure will be directed to use 2nd Street East, 4th Avenue East, and East Idaho Street (U.S. Highway 2).
- “No Thru Traffic” signs are posted on College Avenue and Sylvan Drive. Access to these roads is limited to area residents, business patrons, and the Woodland Montessori School community.
Drivers are strongly encouraged to avoid the project area, including Woodland Avenue, where the City of Kalispell’s Water Main Replacement Project is underway.

The intersection will remain closed throughout construction. Closing the area ensures safer, faster, and more efficient work within the limited project area.
Crews aim to complete the bulk of the work this construction season and reopen the intersection to traffic by the end of the year.
Access to nearby properties will be maintained.

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), in partnership with the City of Kalispell and contractor Schellinger Construction, has begun work on improvements at the intersection of Woodland Avenue with 2nd Street East/Conrad Drive. The project will replace the existing intersection with a single-lane roundabout to enhance safety and improve traffic flow.
Currently, crews are relocating utilities and completing other preparatory work before beginning construction of the single-lane roundabout. All work is occurring on the roadside with no impacts on traffic.
Beginning Monday, August 10, the intersection will be closed to all traffic and will remain closed throughout construction.

There will be no traffic impacts until early August, when the intersection will close and remain closed throughout construction.
Closing the area ensures faster, safer, and more efficient work within the limited project area.

Construction is expected to be fully completed in the fall of 2027.
Why a Roundabout?
After evaluating options, MDT and the City of Kalispell selected a single-lane roundabout as the best long-term solution to enhance safety and improve traffic flow. Key benefits include:
