Account creation within the new permitting system is delayed for a couple of days and will not go live on 11/17/2025 due to an unexpected issue. 📢 SCAM ALERT: MDT is aware of a toll road and ticket scam going around via text message. We do NOT have toll roads in Montana or send texts about citations. If you receive a text that appears to be the state of Montana telling you that your bill or what you owe is overdue, please do not click/tap any links and delete it immediately.
MT IFTA Carriers: MDT does not send text messages to our contacts requesting they file their quarterly IFTA returns. Emails and mailed information are the methods of contact used.
FMCSA Registration Modernization Resources Hub: FMCSA will begin rolling out the new registration system in phases in 2025. Visit the registration resources-hub for more information.
FMCSA TIN/EIN Changes: Inquiries need to be directed to the FMCSA Customer Insurance and Registration Information Support (CIRIS) Contact Center at 1-800-832-5660 or on-line at https://ask.fmcsa.dot.gov/. Requests to make changes must also include updated, signed, and dated MCS-150 from the carrier. Go to the “Send Us a Ticket” section and attach the MCS-150.

USDOT Number updates: needed for Intrastate and Interstate carriers, this is a free service that is done by FMCSA and MCS/MDT. 02-14-2018 - Montana Title and Registration Process
The MT Department of Justice (DOJ) is recommending that carriers interested in IRP, go through the IRP registration process with MDT before completing title work through DOJ. This will help to eliminate duplicated registrations. The DOJ asks that the carrier shows proof of registration (Temporary Authority and/or a Cab Card from IRP) to process title work.
